Millie's Story

Millie with her mommy Micca.

Millie is the runt of 4 kittens that are 3 months old.....birthday is November 25, 2008. She is a sweet lap kitten that despise her size loved to rough house with her much bigger siblings. Her favorite toy is the laser pointer. She also has/had a very voracious appetite....loving human food like turkey and chicken. (no bones though!!!!)

Being indoor cats, I know who the father is so I can say that the 4 kittens are 1/2 chocolate seal point ragdoll (their father) and 1/2 brown short haired tabby (their mother who I rescued from the streets (she has been tested and vaccinated). Millie took after her mother with short tiger stripped fur, however the feel of her fur is nothing like you could imagine. Is butter soft and she loves it when you scratch her scruff.

Over a week I had noticed little Millie sleeping more and more but it wasn't until I noticed her lack of eating and a choking/gag reflex when she tried to eat or drink water. Immediately I took her to the vet.

Wednesday, Jan 21, 2009 the vet had to hydrate Millie and they ran several typical tests..... they found nothing other than she was running a high fever. We started her the antibiotic clavimix. By Friday morning she seemed a little better but a strange bump had appeared on her lower left jaw. I was concerned that she ingested something and it was stuck in her esophagus. I called the vet Friday morning and arranged for xrays and an exploratory search of her throat if nothing appeared on the xrays. The xrays showed nothing. Millie was tested for her red blood count before anesthesia to make sure she would handle it okay. That is when the vet became panicked. Millie's little body had only 12.6 for her red blood cell count. Millie would never make it through anesthesia without a blood transfusion. I rushed Millie to UCDavis small animal emergency room. There Dr. Chiang performed a full CBC and further examined the xrays. CBC results were not good. The next step for Millie is a blood transfusion and bone marrow exam.

I have exhausted my finances and borrowed from my Mom, Dad and Grandparents. I am stuck and don't know what to do. Dr. Chiang estimates $1500 for the rest of her care and I have $25.

So here I am, taking to blogging Millie's daily health in the hopes to reach out and ask for help. I can't give up on her yet. She still tries to play with the others, still loves to sit in my lap but she is fading and I desperately want to help her.

If you live in the Sacramento area, I am happy to sell to you Navel oranges from my tree. Tonight I am taking pictures of my clothes, books and nicknack's to post on ebay as well. I'll post my ebay name when I get the items uploaded. I also borrowed a Nikon Cool Scan and can scan 35 mm slides for donations.

I am open to any suggestions. The darned economy has hit everyone so I am not expecting much but any little bit takes me one step closer to helping Millie get better.

Should Millie not make it, any donations I receive I will give to the SPCA since they have had an increase of owners no longer able to care for their pets because of the economy.

My next post will be a simple break down of what Dr. Chiang diagnosed for Millie.

Thank you for taking the time to read Millie's story.
